Forestry Training

In this training session, we will delve into the fundamentals of forest ecology and tree identification, preparing participants for potential questions in the Envirothon Forestry section. Additionally, students will gain hands-on experience in utilizing forestry tools such as clinometers and compasses under the guidance of forestry experts. This training is an excellent opportunity to get your teams ready for the upcoming Regional Envirothon competition. The forestry training session is open to all students, whether you’re considering Envirothon participation and seeking more information, looking to enhance skills for other events, or simply intrigued by forestry—everyone is invited to join us!

Renewable Energy Research Lab Tour with the University of Washington – Seattle

Learn about renewable energy from graduate student researchers at the University of Washington’s Clean Energy Institute. Tour a research lab, and conduct a hands-on activity to learn more about cutting-edge research in clean energy and sustainable plastics. Aquatics Training

The Seaport is located on the waterfront of Commencement Bay, offering the perfect setting for exploring the aquatic world. Learn multifaceted water sampling methods, observe aquatic organisms up close in their interactive touch-tank aquariums, and learn more about the impact urbanization has had on Commencement Bay and the creatures that call its waters home. Register Here

Wildlife Workshop

This is a free workshop offering to help prepare teams and individuals for the Envirothon Wildlife section. We’ll delve into the different adaptations of animals, ecosystems and habitats, and the human effect on them both. Learn about these through hands-on activities and exploration, including a visit through the wolf sanctuary. The workshop will take place on Saturday, February 17th, from 11:30-1:30, with a tour of the sanctuary taking place at 1:30.

Forestry Workshop

We are partnering with Environmental Science professionals at Clover Park Technical College to host a Forestry Workshop! You will have the chance to learn directly from Dr. Derek Faust, a professor in Environmental Science and Forest Resources. This workshop offers the unique opportunity to study in CPTC outdoor laboratory, hear about Dr. Faust’s experiences in the vast field of Environmental Science, and gain knowledge about the many topics surrounding forestry science and management.

We are partnering with soil scientist and WSU Alumni Chuck Natsuhara to host this year’s Soils Workshop. Mr. Natsuhara has over 30 years of experience as a soil scientist working with Natural Resources Conservation Service! This is a great opportunity to learn hands-on techniques to examine your soil and find out why soil matters in more ways than plant productivity.
